To best meet the mental health needs of children and their families, as well as actively promote the training of mental health professionals, the Clinic engages in a number of training partnerships with organizations and institutions in the community.

Child Psychiatry Residents Training

Through a long-standing affiliation with the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the Clinic provides on-site psychiatry training in the diagnosis and treatment of children ages five and younger.  This is a unique program within Los Angeles County, which extends the impact of the Clinic’s expertise in early intervention and community wellness.  Medical residents learn about early identification and treatment of mental health problems in very young children, including training in both outpatient and day treatment services within a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and service delivery.

Psychology Intern Program

The Clinic’s Psychology Internship Program, which provides training to doctoral students from schools throughout the State, is also a California Psychology Internship Council training site.  Four students per year participate in a nine-month program of intensive supervision, didactic seminars, and direct service to clients and families.

Art Therapy Internship Program

Through Loyola Marymount University, the Clinic established an Art Therapy Internship for students matriculating in the Marital and Family Therapy (MFT) Program.  Students are afforded the opportunity to combine their art therapy skills with direct clinical work.  During the nine-month program, participants engage in an enriching training experience that provides direct service to children and their caregivers.  Further, students receive clinical supervision with the benefit of early intervention training in a milieu setting and participating as part of a multidisciplinary team in our Early Intervention and Community Wellness Division.
